EyrePlus recently held a one-day training event in Ceduna to help the community’s up-and-coming business owners improve their bookkeeping skills. This event was organised in collaboration with the Adelaide Business Hub, through the South Australian Government’s Office for Small and Family Business program.

‘Bookkeeping Skills for Small Businesses’ is a workshop that teaches essential skills that small business owners need to run a business effectively. The instructor for the day was accounting expert Julie Allerton, who has more than thirty years of experience in her field and has spent most of her career helping small businesses thrive by developing the bookkeeping knowledge of business owners.

On the 31st of July, eight Ceduna-based business owners gathered at Ceduna Foreshore Hotel, along with Julie and EyrePlus team members, for a day of learning. Julie covered three important areas with her training, which were:

1. Accounting and ATO requirements of running a business and where to seek assistance post-workshop

2. How to quote for work – product pricing or service pricing?

3. Contractors or employees – what you need for each

Within these three focus areas, participants in the workshop took on an abundance of new skills and were given practical information and templates to take home for further use. This included a full PDF copy of the PowerPoint presentation used during the workshop, and a spreadsheet for manual documentation of profits and losses. Templates were provided for cost and pricing, services pricing, quoting, business budgeting, and employee charge outs.

But the support didn’t stop there! For the next two days after the workshop, Julie offered one-on-one mentoring sessions to anyone who had attended. This ensured that participants fully understood what they had learned and gave everyone an opportunity to reflect and ask any follow-up questions.

“Everyone in the group was engrossed in learning from someone with so much experience, and found the session to be informative with great clarification throughout.”

– Emily, CDP Pathway Service Coordinator at EyrePlus.

A big thank you goes out to Julie for leading the Bookkeeping Skills for Small Businesses workshop, and our EyrePlus team that helped organise the day. Participants left this event with a wealth of knowledge to set their small businesses on a path to success, and EyrePlus looks forward to seeing the growth they see as a result of their new skills.
