Across the long weekend from September 30th to October 1st, Ceduna Council held their annual event, Ceduna Oysterfest.

Oysterfest brings together the Ceduna community for a jam-packed schedule of parades, food and drinks, and an endless supply of entertainment, sharing a love of oysters as the Oyster Capital of Australia. This weekend showcases all that Ceduna has to offer and brings in 5,000 people from the inner and wider communities of South Australia and the country.

EyrePlus has supported Oysterfest for many years, and this year, we showed that support as a Platinum Sponsor. As part of our sponsorship, EyrePlus hosted a main stage where local talent could perform for the crowds. The EyrePlus team were in attendance to enjoy the festivities and run our market stall, interacting with the community and offering information about services available at EyrePlus and within the Ceduna area. Volunteering their time at the EyrePlus stall was Jessica, Job Placement Team Leader, Emily, CDP Pathway Service Coordinator, and Kristy, Employment Consultant.

Jessica shared her experience taking part in this year’s event, commenting,

“Ceduna Oysterfest is such a great community event, celebrating some of the things that make the town special like oysters, local seafood and attractions, while enjoying the beautiful coastal views and taking in everything else the event has to offer over the weekend.

It’s such an important event to showcase local businesses, small businesses, local talents and everything Ceduna!”

With a jam-packed schedule across two days, Ceduna Oysterfest had plenty of entertainment on offer! Starting the weekend off with a coastal walk and street parade, attendees could fill their time with clown, dance, music and kite shows, seafood-related competitions, twice-daily aerobatic shows performing daring aircraft stunts for the crowd, and a captivating firework display to finish each day. Also on offer was an array of delicious cuisines, some sweet treats for the kids, drinks for the adults, and of course, oysters.

Kristy, who attended both days of the event, shared her highlights,

“I enjoyed the Oysterfest weekend, attending the festival on both days. There was an excellent variety of food and drinks for people to enjoy. Greek sweets were lovely with freshly made loukoumades, and the oysters were amazing with a nice range of toppings (my favourite was the Mignonette Oysters).

We braved the cooler weather on both nights, enjoying the sounds of Allan Webster and Bon Fire, who rocked the crowds. Looking forward to what’s on offer next year!”

Emily spoke on the teamwork she witnessed, with the EyrePlus playing their part in seeing Ceduna Oysterfest to success,

“The On-Country Regeneration Officers have played a large role in the community so far this year, going above and beyond their roles and responsibilities and always being willing to provide a lending hand.

The team were heavily involved with Oysterfest preparations, assembling the fencing barricade and large marquees on the Ceduna foreshore. After a very busy week, everyone was keen to relax and enjoy some oysters over the weekend.”

EyrePlus believes in supporting community spirit and connection at every opportunity and was proud to be a Platinum Sponsor of this year’s event. A big thank you to the entire EyrePlus team for your hard work, and we look forward to seeing what Ceduna Oysterfest brings in 2024.
