At EyrePlus, we support remote communities by creating opportunities that reflect local needs, build on individual strengths, and connect people to work that makes a difference. In Ceduna, one such opportunity helped participant Cheyanne discover a new career path in hospitality, proving how culturally safe, community-led training can lead to real, lasting impact.
Cheyanne had never pictured herself working in hospitality. Her experience was in early childhood education, and she wasn’t sure a change of industry would suit her. Everything shifted when she enrolled in the Hospitality Skills Cluster Course in 2024, co-delivered by EyrePlus, Ceduna Aboriginal Corporation, Complete Hospitality Training Skills, and the Aboriginal Access Centre.
The locally delivered, hands-on course helped Cheyanne build practical skills, gain nationally recognised qualifications, and rebuild her confidence. It showed her that with the right support and a strong local network, new pathways are always possible.
In February 2025, she started working at The Mint Gallery Café, a social enterprise run by Ceduna Aboriginal Corporation. The café serves great coffee while promoting local Aboriginal art and culture, offering both employment and a sense of purpose.

Cheyanne quickly found her stride. She developed barista skills, learned how to manage orders, and now helps with catering for events. She also discovered how much she enjoys connecting with customers.
“I love greeting people and making their day. We have an amazing space to work in, showcasing beautiful art. Customers often walk through the gallery after ordering their coffee and sometimes purchase a piece of local art.”

The café has also given her the flexibility she needs as a mum. With a family-friendly 9am to 3pm roster, Cheyanne has been able to balance work and home life, while feeling like a valued part of the team.
“Cheyanne is a great example of how real-life training can open doors. By taking up the opportunity to participate in the Hospitality Skills Cluster Course, she gained valuable skills and confidence to take the next step in her employment journey.”
Tina Pelucchi, Employment Hub Coordinator at Ceduna Aboriginal Corporation
Cheyanne now sees long-term potential in her role and takes pride in being part of a workplace that supports both local talent and local culture.
Her story shows what’s possible when employment services are built around people. Through tailored case management, strengths-based support, and partnerships that reflect community priorities, programs like this are helping individuals move from job-ready to job-secure.
